5 Design Hacks to Make a Small Bathroom Seem Bigger

Designing your dream bathroom can be made to feel harder if you don’t have a lot of space to work with, but it doesn’t have to be a chore–here are 5 design techniques to make your smaller bathroom feel more spacious.

1. Use A Trio of Tiles

By leaning towards a slightly more maximalist design, you’ll be sure to make your smaller bathroom feel luxurious. A great way to do this is by choosing your tiles in groups of three: either by selecting 3 different shapes in the same colour, or three different colours with the same shape.

This will be sure to draw the eye to certain features of the room, creating small amounts of emphasis which will then lead to the illusion of more space in your smaller bathroom.

2. Use Mirrors to Your Advantage

Whether you’re a fan of a full mirrored wall or in the mood for something  more subtle, the use of mirrors in your smaller bathroom will be sure to create more light and space.

This can be done in any manner of ways, however the most popular is usually a statement mirror above the sink for utility and emphasis. No matter how you choose to utilise mirrors, doing so will be a godsend to anyone hoping to bring more space to a smaller bathroom.

3. Use Matching Wall-Hung Units

This is perhaps one of the oldest design tricks in the book, and for good reason. By utilising your wall space in order to free up lots of floor space, you’ll be sure to make the room feel more spacious.

By then making sure that these units are all similar in colour or material, you’ll create a seamless feel in your smaller bathroom and make the different wall-hung elements feel less busy.

4. Choose Expansive Neutral Tones

By opting for a lighter colour scheme, you’ll be sure to make a smaller bathroom feel much bigger. By nature, darker colours can have quite an oppressive effect and can therefore do the opposite.

This is why choosing airier, lighter shades paired with light wood units and clean whites may be a better option, as it will invite more light into the space. In turn, this will create more space in a small bathroom.

5. Repeat Tiles on the Floor and Walls

By choosing the same large tiles for your bathroom floor and walls, you’ll be sure to make a small bathroom feel bigger by creating a seamless, sweeping effect. Not only that, but you’ll be sure to achieve the forever-coveted hotel chic style which will be sure to make the space feel more expensive.

By choosing a paler tile perhaps with a marble design, you’ll be sure to make your small bathroom feel more spacious by making it much lighter and brighter.
