5 Kitchen Design Trends for 2022

As experienced and skilled designers, we are always looking ahead to predict industry trends, and while kitchen trends can last for ten years or more, they adjust slightly year on year, making it important that we are ahead of the game to continue to design innovative and clever designs.

Here are our predictions for the kitchen design elements that will be on-trend in 2022:

1. Bold colours

Over the last few years, we’ve seen bold colours make a comeback to kitchen interiors. Colour is a great way to add some personal flair to your kitchen. Look for bolder and brighter colours to add throughout your kitchen in 2022. There is no rule for which colours to go for, but when in doubt, go for colours that can double as neutrals, such as navy blues, grey-greens and earth tones. Greens and blues are already well established in kitchen design and can be used to create a rich, bold tone throughout your kitchen.

2. Natural Materials

The use of natural materials has been on the rise during the pandemic - from marble and granite to wood and stone. These materials can add warmth and depth to a kitchen and have also been recognised for their health benefits, reducing the amount of chemically treated items in the home. At Exact, we offer a wide range of natural materials for worktops, breakfast bars and units from the highest quality manufacturers, allowing you to find the exact style and colours you desire.

3. Natural Light

Continuing with the theme of natural materials, designing kitchens to enhance natural light will also be on-trend in 2022. From expansive windows or skylights over the island or stove, every opportunity to bring natural lighting into the room should be optimised. By letting natural light fall upon the kitchen, a warm and spacious ambience can be created.

Mirrors can be used to further enhance natural light, for example, we added a smokey mirror splashback along the far wall of a kitchen created for the Sharma family, to cleverly mirror the view of the garden to make the room feel even more spacious and bright. The room was completed with LED lighting to allow for bright, natural lighting, day and night.

4. Handleless Cabinet Design

In 2022 we’ll see a simpler, minimalist approach to kitchen cabinets, with handleless designs here to stay. Sleek, modern and elegant, the handleless design can create a contemporary feel for your kitchen. The streamlined, uncluttered look of handleless kitchen units offers a much smoother transition throughout the room, making it ideal for the open plan design of a modern kitchen.

We offer a range of opening styles, including trendline, vertical and push to open units, which are available in both mechanical and electrical opening systems.

5. Statement Island

There are many ways to make an island a statement piece in the kitchen, from using different colour cabinets from the perimeter of the room, to having a bold countertop. With a wide portfolio of bespoke kitchen ranges from high-quality manufacturers, we can design islands in bespoke shapes and styles, such as curved islands to create stunning, eye-catching centrepieces.

Islands are becoming increasingly popular spaces for not only socialisation but cooking, with people choosing to place their hob on the kitchen island. Many of our clients over the past year have opted for Siemens hobs, such as the inductionAir, which comes with built-in ventilation. Siemens have also launched their GlassdraftAir, the new innovative extractor that can be installed behind the hob to create a single surface effect, allowing a completely uninterrupted view of the living space beyond. These developments in technology are revolutionising the use of kitchen islands and making them a much more central part of the kitchen.
